The Municipality of Mladenovac
Beginnings and Development
The first settlements in the territory of the present-day municipality of Mladenovac were established in the prehistoric period, as proved by numerous archaeological sites and around 200 remains of prehistoric settlements. The most important ones include Jablanica in the village of Medjuluzje, dating from the Iron Age and the early Roman period, Protostarcevacko site in Batasevo, dating back to the end of the sixth millennium B.C., and Divicmedj in Kovacevac, where an early medieval town from the period between 9th and 11th century was found.
Industrial Potentials
Today, industrial operations in Mladenovac are mainly carried out in the areas of private business, small and mid-sized companies, while the giants of the past, created at the time of accelerated industrialization after World War II, such as Petar Drapsin, Keramika, Minel Trafo, Cobest (Azbest), Makovica, Inteks (Crvena Zvezda), now have decimated workforce and have either already been privatized or are about to be so.
Education, Health, Culture, Sports and the Media
In Mladenovac there are 20 insitutions for the care of preschool children, 5 of which are kindergartens and 15 are branches in primary schools. There are around 1,170 children in them, according to the data of the Preschool Institution “Jelica Obradovic” for 2010.
Tourism Potentials
Mladenovac has exceptional tourism potentials, thanks to its cultural tradition, natural resources and rich historical heritage.
The vicinity of mountain Kosmaj (12 km) offers enjoyment in the increasingly popular excursion and hunting tourism. The recognizable symbol of this mountain and the entire region is a large monument erected on its top in 1971, in memory of the soldiers of the partisan unit formed in Kosmaj, who were killed in World War II.
